Benjamin Cook had a serious crash just hours after the start of the METALKAS 2. Ekstraliga in Leszno during a British league match. As it turns out, the Australian sustained a wrist injury.
- Cook broke his wrist in the match between Kings Lynn Stars and Leicester Lions. He was representing Kings Lynn.

Last Saturday, after half a year off, the METALKAS 2. Ekstraliga started. In Sunday’s match, ending the first round, FOGO UNIA Leszno defeated AUTONA UNIA Tarnów 63:26. One of the home team’s leaders was Benjamin Cook, who scored 13 points and 1 bonus for the team. However, the Australian couldn’t enjoy the victory for long, as he suffered a serious crash the next day in the British league. After the incident, FOGO UNIA informed that Cook suffered a wrist fracture.
– The biggest problem is the broken wrist – that’s all and that’s significant. Ben is a bit bruised besides that, but these are not serious injuries for a speedway rider. We can’t get a rider with a broken wrist back on his feet in a few days, so it’s obvious he will miss the match against CELLFAST WILKAMI Krosno and I think he will also miss the match against ABRAMCZYK POLONIĄ Bydgoszcz – said Sławomir Kryjom for us.
In the case of Ben Cook’s injury, the regulations allow for the use of a so-called ZZ substitution, which the Leszno team plans to utilize – In Ben’s case, we can use a replacement rider and we will certainly use this option in Krosno. Then we’ll monitor his rehabilitation progress and consider how long it will take him to recover, but no further decisions will be made anytime soon – the official said.
Is FOGO UNIA planning to contract a new rider in light of the team leader’s injury? – As a club, we are known for unconventional staffing moves, so I won’t answer that question now. We know Nicolai Klindt has a “Warsaw” contract with Ostrow, and that’s a solution, but is it the only one, probably not.
