Franciszek Szczyrba is currently one of the most talked-about names in Polish mini speedway. Besides his successes in the black sport, which include championships in Poland, Europe, and the world in their respective classes, the Rybnik native also boasts incredible skiing skills. Where did a 14-year-old’s passion for skiing come from?
As reported in Gazeta Rybnicka, Szczyrba caught the ski bug faster than motorcycles, with his first lessons on snow coming from his father and grandfather. – I am convinced that without skiing, Franek wouldn’t achieve such successes in speedway. What took other kids a day or two to learn, he picked up from run to run – said Marek Szczyrba to the monthly magazine.
What does regular skiing offer in a sport as different as speedway? According to the rider himself, more than some might think. – On skis I primarily learn good body balancing, which really helps me when riding a motorcycle – as we read in Gazeta Rybnicka.
Franciszek Szczyrba’s passion for skiing didn’t end with the start of his speedway career, although over time the slope has been replaced by the track, and activities with the mini speedway club, INNPRO ROW Rybnik, have become more important. Previously, the 14-year-old regularly trained in skiing, where he found the most fulfillment in special slalom, suiting more nimble skiers. Szczyrba was also present during competitions in the Beskids League, and he plans to spend the upcoming winter holidays in Austria.
