ABRAMCZYK POLONIA Bydgoszcz lost the playoffs for PGE Ekstraliga against GEZET STAL Gorzów, marking the end of the season for Tomasz Bajerski’s team and another attempt for the elite next year. In an interview with metropoliabydgoska.pl, President Jerzy Kanclerz summarized the past season, which in his opinion could have been slightly better.
ABRAMCZYK POLONIA once again failed to advance to the PGE Ekstraliga. The Bydgoszcz team first fell in the final of the METALKAS 2. Ekstraliga against FOGO UNIA Leszno, followed by the playoff against GEZET STAL Gorzów. As the club president states, the reasons for the defeat should be sought in the first leg of this encounter. – The failure was primarily the result of the first match, because I was aware that a 4-point lead would be difficult to defend. The reality turned out to be painful, due to some riders underperforming. We know we win and lose together, but three riders scored only 6 points combined. I’m talking about Huckenbeck, Loktajew, and Buczkowski. Their poor performance meant we practically had no one to compete with – Jerzy Kanclerz tells metropoliabydgoska.pl. – I am terribly sorry for what happened. We know we have been fighting for this promotion for years. It’s my goal, which would crown my activity in sports, especially in speedway. It didn’t work out for the second time.
The head of ABRAMCZYK POLONIA does not hide his disappointment with the weaker performance of some of his riders. – If I were to address the riders unequivocally, I would say directly – you blew it. But will anything come of it? It’s hard to say. You have to be able to rise from your knees. Unfortunately, names don’t ride. Then there’s the equipment, mindset, and a whole host of other factors. Apparently, we lacked many of them – he believes.

Shortly after the playoff, the club announced a two-year agreement with Tom Brennan. The Brit joined ABRAMCZYK POLONIA at the beginning of this season and fully met the expectations placed on him, resulting in the extension of his contract. – The team was built. The information about Tom Brennan’s two-year stay is a kind of highlight for the fans after this two-legged clash with GEZET STAL. We all wanted this throughout the season. The guy made incredible progress. He will stop being a U24 rider but belongs to the young generation of riders. He is developing, and I believe in him. That’s why we signed a two-year contract. I want him to develop in ABRAMCZYK POLONIA. Tom knew that there are more riders than places to ride, but he took up the challenge. He only wanted to hear from me if, by performing better in training and sparring than his teammates, he would be guaranteed a spot in the lineup. I replied yes – explains Kanclerz.
Besides extending the contract with Tom Brennan, are Bydgoszcz officials planning any moves on the transfer market? – Today, I am not bothering myself with this at all. We know what the market is like when it comes to the U24 position. We know that the riders I am interested in acquiring have valid contracts with other clubs. We are still in the METALKAS 2. Ekstraliga, and it does not occur to me to acquire anyone.
– I built the team earlier and promised something to its members. There’s a reason we signed two-year agreements. I will not strengthen the team in any way. I believe we will appear in this lineup in the 2026 season – concluded Jerzy Kanclerz.
