Rafał Martuszewski: The result suggests that it was easy in the match against the HUNTERS PSŻ Poznań team, but how did it look from the track’s perspective?
Jakub Jamróg (CELLFAST WILKI Krosno): It’s not the same as it looks dryly from the result if someone didn’t watch the match. There was a fight, we were able to overtake, there was great racing, a great atmosphere in the stands. The result was very close at the start, then we caught the settings, so-called “momentum,” and we went for our own. We filled the absence of Dimitri Berge, our youth performed excellently, and I congratulate them for that. And that’s it. This is the strength of the team, to complement each other.
It turns out you don’t miss Dimitri Berge that much?
No, not really… It’s not like that. We are eagerly waiting for him! It’s a crazy situation for me, but fortunately, we defended ourselves, as there would be a lot of talking if we lost this match.
Was the track very different from the one in Krosno during the match against FOGO UNIA Leszno?
Just look at the race times. That speaks for itself, however, it was different but also enjoyable. Last time, there was no tragedy. It was heavier than in the match with Poznań, but now it was more pleasant.
Have you gotten used to the Krosno fans? Do you feel at home here?
The affection from Krosno towards me has always been there. I am local, although it’s another province, but the closest one. Whenever I came here, there was this affection towards me, and they have been asking me for years “come, come, come,” so I said, “well, I’ll come eventually!”. I am here, and I thank them for the great energy, which carries us, and it feels great to ride for the whole stadium. It’s incredible. My family also comes here for matches, my wife, kids, friends. It’s a great thing.
Probably in the spirit of the idea that the speedway southern Poland must stick together?
Yes! Everyone, when they come here, complains a bit when you ask “how was the journey?” you hear “Oh, don’t tell me! How long can it take to get here?”. We laugh at it because soon I will come here by bike. Let’s enjoy having such an incredible center in the lower Ściana. Let’s be happy, as it’s not that the world begins somewhere around Warsaw.
You are the leader of METALKAS 2. Ekstraliga. How do you assess your chances in this league from this perspective? Or maybe, as speedway riders usually say – do you focus only on the next match?
Yes, that’s what we say. You nailed it. What can I tell you? These are constant psychological schemas, and that’s just how it is. I am now focusing on my next events, now we have a bit of a break, the Swedish league is starting, I am focusing on that a bit. At the same time, I have some thoughts, equipment tests, engines that haven’t had a chance yet, and there’s quite a few. But somewhere in the back of my mind, there’s that carrot set, which is Bydgoszcz.
